
Investigation of suspected Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Calprotectin is measured in a stool sample by ELISA. Calprotectin is excreted in excess into the intestinal lumen during inflammatory processes and can act as a marker for inflammatory diseases of the lower gastrointestinal tract.

This test should only be used according to the Leeds Map of Medicine change in bowel habit (CIBH) pathway as a guide to differentiate between IBD and IBS. This test is currently not included on the UKAS scope of accreditation.
