Patient information
Immune Boost – early maternal breastmilk
Immune Boost is an award-winning quality improvement project developed by the neonatal and preterm midwifery teams at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The aim was to increase the proportion of babies born under 34 weeks who receive maternal breastmilk (MBM) within the first 24 hours following birth, with a further aim to increase the proportion who receive MBM within 6 hours (in line with British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) guidance).
If you are a patient, we will explain more about the benefits of expressing colostrum to boost your baby’s immune system. You can read more about this in our Immune Boost leaflet.
Information for professionals
If you are healthcare professional and you are interested in rolling out Immune Boost in your hospital, please email us for access to our brand guidelines and campaign material including a patient information leaflet, poster and driver diagram.
We have also launched a national network of preterm birth midwives. The aim is to share and promote best practice across maternity services in the area of preterm birth and over 50 NHS Trusts are represented on the network. If you are interested in joining, please send us an email.
