Fetal Medicine Midwives
The midwifery team support patients and their families through their care and they are a point of contact for further information. This includes supporting patients on their journey through the Fetal Medicine Unit.
The midwifery team provide information and preparation about what to expect if referred to FMU and attending for a Consultant review. They co-ordinate the different teams involved in providing care and support birth planning appropriate for that family.
The team strive to provide individualised care and some families receive postnatal follow up and support. This is guided by the needs of the family and linking with external agencies such as the local hospices.
Maternity Support Workers
Our Maternity Support Workers are the first point of contact for the region when sending a referral to the Fetal Medicine Unit. They ensure the referrals are dealt with efficiently and appointments are booked in a timely manner. They assist the Midwifery team in providing care during the appointments, and arrange appropriate follow up.
