Patient hotel
The patient hotel is located on level 8 of Bexley Wing at St James’s Hospital. It has 20 rooms which have panoramic views of the city. It is available to self-caring patients who are having treatment and who live a long distance away from the hospital. Please ask the clinical team for more information. Please note that there are no facilities to provide either nursing or medical care within the hotel.
Facilities
- Available rooms include single and double rooms, each with an en-suite, tea and coffee making facilities, a fridge and a television
- Two double rooms with wheelchair access are also available
- Patients are able to stay free of charge. There is a charge of £35 per night for relatives and other guests who require their own room
Checking in and out
- Check in is available after 2 pm and check out is 10 am
- If you are admitted to hospital during your stay, you or your carer must ‘check out’ at the hotel reception – if you are unable to do this, please inform the nursing staff who will be happy to do this on your behalf
- If you are admitted to hospital after 4 pm your carer may stay in the hotel overnight, but must ‘check out’ after breakfast the following morning

Shops
There are a number of shops in Bexley wing on level 0:
- Amigo – convenience store offering newspapers, magazines, food and drink.
- Boots Pharmacy – also offers a selection of food, drinks and snacks
- The Ground restaurant
- Costa Coffee
- Charity shop
There is seating at the back of the ground floor near the shops and toilets are located just round the corner from the Amigo’s shop by the Transport office.
In the Bexley Wing atrium there is a piano that is regularly played by volunteers, and an art gallery – a regularly changing exhibition which helps to raise money for the Leeds Hospitals Charity.
Car parking
If you are using the services at St James’s Hospital there is a multi-storey car park which is located opposite the Bexley wing entrance.
It has 624 spaces for patients, visitors and staff and operates a ‘Pay as you Leave’ system – on entering the car park you will need to take a ticket. Disabled parking spaces are located on level 0. The car park is open Monday – Sunday 6 am to 12 midnight – if you need to remove your vehicle when the car park is closed, please contact security. There is a drop off zone available on the plaza in front of the main entrance in the event of an emergency, or you are unwell.
Please note that some patients attending for cancer treatment are exempt from car parking charges, please ask at your appointment for more details.
