As part of your cancer treatment you may receive all or some of your treatment on one of the inpatient wards within the Bexley Wing. This depends on your cancer diagnosis and the most appropriate treatment for you. Each of the wards specialise in different cancer types.

J94 Young Adult Unit
J94 is a nine-bedded unit that cares for young adults between the ages of 18 and 25 who have been diagnosed with cancer. We have three single-bedded side rooms; each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, a flat screen TV with a DVD player, and internet access. There are two three-bedded bays which enable you to interact with other patients and offer each other social support. We also have a small day case area with three chairs; this allows you to receive any day treatments you need.
We have a nice, bright day room area with a kitchen we want you to use, so you can socialise and meet other young patients. It is furnished with comfy chairs and sofas, a large flat screen TV, games consoles, a sound system, guitars and a pool table. There is also a comfy quiet lounge for you to use if you want to relax.
The visiting hours of J94 Young Adult Unit are 10 am to 10 pm.
Haematology Wards
We treat patients with haematological cancers on wards J88 and J89 on level 3 of Bexley Wing. Ward J89 also provides the Bone Marrow Transplant unit. Four of our rooms are specially designed for patients having a particular kind of bone marrow transplant called ‘allogenic’. All of our beds are in single rooms with en-suite bathrooms to minimise the risk of cross infection in patients. Ward J88 has 20 beds and these are also all single en-suite type. We also care for non-cancer conditions such sickle-cell patients when they are requiring in-patient care. Either ward is suitable, if you are having an autologous bone marrow transplant.
The visiting hours of J89 and J88 are 2 pm to 8 pm.
J96 and acute assessment unit J95
J96 and J95 are located together on level 5 of the Bexley Wing. J95 is the acute assessment area open from 8 am to 8 pm. This is where our specialised doctors and nurses will assess you if you should become acutely unwell during treatments like chemotherapy, immunotherapy or radiotherapy, or from symptoms from your cancer. Often patents are admitted from this ward to J96.
J96 is an Acute Assessment Ward which is open 24-hours, seven days a week. If you are admitted here, normally the maximum length of stay is 48 hours before you are transferred to another ward.
The visiting hours of both J95 and J96 are 2 pm to 8 pm.
