This team provides care and support for people who:
- Have had cancer or any other condition treated by a cancer specialist during childhood or as a young adult
- Have had a non-cancerous illness which required a bone marrow transplant during childhood or as a young adult
- And have completed their treatment
Many cancer treatments put patients at risk of developing problems later on in life. The late effects team discuss the possible late effects of the treatment an individual has had and will monitor this by the most appropriate method of follow-up which aims to minimise these effects by providing expert advice, guidance and support.
There are various methods of follow up depending on the age of the patient at the time of treatment and may include:
- Follow up with the children’s team – please see the Long term follow up page for more information
- A hospital clinic visit with either the clinical nurse specialist or consultant
- Telephone clinic – offers patients the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns with the nurse specialist.
If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please contact one of the nurse specialists in Long Term Follow-Up:
