Research allows for increased patient treatment options, improved patient outcomes, and better service. All patients who are eligible will have the opportunity to be part of leading and innovative research. We are one of a small number of hospital trusts who offer national and commercial studies underpinned by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).

AMY109EU study – ACERS; Assessing a new treatment Concept for EndometRioSis
The Gynaecology research team are playing a key role in leading a Phase II research study, which will evaluate an antibody designed to reduce inflammation and endometriosis symptoms. The drug was developed by scientists from Chugai Pharmaceutical Co Ltd and aims to block a protein (interleukin-8) which promotes the body’s inflammatory response to endometriosis.
The way this new, first of its kind treatment works in reducing inflammation and potentially the destructive scarring of endometriosis, could mean in the long-term some women avoid surgery for this debilitating disease.
