We provide care to a population of over 3 million people, receiving referrals from primary, secondary and tertiary care and we have established robust connections with our local hospitals throughout the Yorkshire region and beyond in order to provide advanced and expert care closer to home for many patients.
Valve disease covers a diverse range of conditions and can affect people at any stage in their lives. Our specialist clinics are run from the Leeds General Infirmary so we can deliver all aspects of your care simultaneously. Here at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, we offer four speciality services, each dedicated to the differing elements of the patient pathway through diagnosis, surveillance and treatment. This page is dedicated to the Leeds Specialist Valve Clinic. More information is available on The Leeds Congenital and Children’s Cardiology, Leeds TAVI Service or the Leeds Cardiac Surgery Service pages.

What is heart valve disease?
There are four valves in the normal adult heart. The valves facilitate unobstructed, unidirectional flow of blood through the heart. The heart valves open and close with every heart beat – that’s around 100,000 times each day.
There are two main forms of valve disease; stenosis or regurgitation, both of which cause a heart murmur.
