Your treatment is planned by a group of health professionals who are specialists within the field of sarcoma cancers.
This group is known as the Multi-disciplinary Team (MDT). The MDT meet together on a Monday afternoon to discuss and plan your treatment.
The MDT is made up of the following staff:
- Consultant Oncologists – Clinical/Medical
- Consultant Surgeons
- Consultant Histopathologists
- Consultant Radiologists
- Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS)
- Physiotherapists
- MDT Co-ordinators
The role of the MDT is to provide a high standard of patient care. Following each meeting, information about your diagnosis and treatment options is documented in your notes and on our computer records. This information is discussed with you at your clinic appointment, please ask any questions or raise any concerns about your treatment and care. If you hear any words or phrases that you do not understand, please ask your doctor or a member of your healthcare team what it means. It does not matter how many times you ask.
You will also be given written information about your diagnosis, treatment plan and copy letters of consultations are also available.
Key Workers
To provide information and support for you during your treatment you will be offered a Key Worker. The role of the key worker is to provide continuity and co-ordinate your care. You will meet a member of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team who will become your key worker.
