What do I need to do before the test?
- You must have nothing to eat from midnight the night before your test.
- You may drink plain water freely.
What does the test involve?
- A cannula, a fine plastic tube may be inserted into a vein in your arm to take blood from.
- A baseline blood sample will be taken and you will then be required to drink a very sweet sugary drink.
- You will have a blood test and finger prick test every 30 minutes during this investigation.
How long will the test take?
- The test will take approximately 2½ hours to complete.
Side-effects
- There are very few side effects from this test, some people may feel a little sick or dizzy, but this usually passes quickly.
When will I get the results?
- The results of this test will be reviewed by your doctor and discussed with you at your next appointment.
