Your consultant is investigating you to determine whether or not you are producing too high levels of cortisol. This is a steroid produced by the adrenal glands.
What do I need to do before the test?
You will need to obtain a prescription for the dexamethasone from either the Endocrine Day Unit – telephone number: 0113 206 4937 or your doctor may have given you this in clinic.
Do not take the tablets until your test has started, but bring them to the Day Unit with you.
What does the test involve
Day 1: 9am Please attend the Endocrine Day Unit for a blood test
- 9am dexamethasone 0.5mg
- 3pm dexamethasone 0.5mg
- 9pm dexamethasone 0.5mg
Day 2: 3am dexamethasone 0.5mg
- 9am dexamethasone 0.5mg
- 3pm dexamethasone 0.5mg
- 9pm dexamethasone 0.5mg
Day 3: 3am dexamethasone 0.5mg
- Please attend the endocrine Day Unit for a blood test at 08:45am.
The results of this test will be reviewed by your doctor and discussed at your next clinic appointment, unless your doctor needs to see you before then.
