What do I need to do before the test?
You may eat and drink as normal on the day of your test but please miss out your dose of:
- Hydrocortisone
- Dexamethazone
- Metyrapone
- Ketoconazole
However please bring your tablets with you so that you can take them after your first blood sample has been taken.
What does the test involve?
The amount of steroid in your blood varies throughout the day, so it is necessary to take blood samples every hour.
If you wish a cannula, a fine plastic tube can be inserted into a vein in your arm to take the blood samples from.
How long will the test take?
The test will take approximately 6 hours to complete.
When will I get the results?
The results of this test will be reviewed by your doctor and discussed with you at your next clinic appointment.
