We work closely with volunteers to provide appropriate support throughout their time with us. From their initial application, to starting volunteering to their ongoing journey, the voluntary services team offers support and help as needed.
Our process is explained below:
1. Application
Great news, we’ve advertised a role that you’re interested in; you’ve read the role profile and it matches your experience, skills or interest and you are able to commit to contributing a minimum of 75 hours of volunteering.
Each role profile will provide details on how to apply.
2. Time to Chat
We interview all volunteer applicants to make sure that the role will match your expectations and that you share the organisations Leeds Way Values.
Applicants who are successful will be provided with details on how to apply via our online platform.
3. References
The team will begin the recruitment process by requesting your references. Your references should cover a total of three years and be either professional and/or academic.
Speak to the team if you might need help identifying who might be able to give you a suitable reference.
4. Recruitments checks
We carry out recruitments checks for anyone applying to volunteer at LTHT. These checks ensure a safe and positive environment for our volunteers, patients, visitors, and staff.
The team will support you through the checks and offer advice about the correct documents and information required for each. The checks include an Identity check; a DBS check; a Right to Work check and an Occupational Health check.
5. Training
All volunteers receive mandatory training when joining the organisation covering several key elements. There is also additional bespoke training which is tailored to each role.
Volunteers are offered ongoing training throughout their volunteer journey to build and develop new skills and expertise.
6. Induction
Volunteers are provided with a comprehensive induction to embed them in their new role and this will often involve shadowing an existing volunteer.
7. Ongoing Support
The volunteering team provide ongoing support, to ensure that roles are rewarding and meet the needs of LTHT and our volunteers. Once volunteers complete 50 hours of volunteering we are also able to support volunteers with references or accessing career support conversations.
8. Celebrate
As a Trust we value any time that volunteers can gift. We recognise that everyone comes to volunteering for different reasons and we always work to celebrate volunteers and their contribution whether that be over a span of years with us or as an opportunity to build skills for a future healthcare career.
