Each month, the Library & Knowledge Service analyses key healthcare databases to produce a report of all new publications with one or more author listed as a member of LTHT staff. Full reports and more detail about how they are compiled can be accessed through the library website.
March 2024 was an exciting month – 183 journal articles with an LTHT author were newly added to the databases. These articles reflect the broad scope and collaborative nature of research activity in Leeds. Publications ranged from the multicentre observational ‘SPACE Study’ investigating penicillin allergy de-labelling, through to a small qualitative study exploring the experiences of junior doctors who shielded during the pandemic. We also saw that nearly 1 in 5 publications listed in April had at least one LTHT author from a non-medical profession. Authors included clinical scientists, pharmacists, sonographers, nurse specialists and more. This diversity demonstrates progress towards our new annual commitment to ‘strengthen participation and growth in research and innovation.’
This month, our ‘pick of the publications’ is A realist evaluation of devices used for the prevention of heel pressure ulcers: An ethnographic study of clinical practice . This qualitative study by Clinical Academic Researcher in Tissue Viability Clare Greenwood explores how and why heel offloading devices are used (or not used) in orthopaedic wards. By adding to the understanding of how staff perceive these devices, this study identifies key considerations for future trial design.
