Congratulations to Dr Rani Khatib, senior consultant pharmacist in cardiology and cardiovascular research and Associate Professor at the Leeds Institute of Cardiometabolic Medicine (LICAMM), University of Leeds, who has been selected by NHS England as one of their National Specialty Advisors (NSA) as part of their Prevention and Long Term conditions team.
Dr. Rani is NSA for cardiovascular disease prevention and will work alongside other clinical directors, providing clinical advice and leadership to help drive transformation of services for patients.
“I’m delighted and feel privileged to take on this important national role, which offers a unique chance to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives working alongside some brilliant colleagues in the NHS for a cause I feel passionately about.”
“Cardiovascular disease accounts for about a quarter of all deaths in the UK, and it’s also one of the most preventable premature health challenges we face. We need to promote healthier lifestyles, tackle health inequalities, and support people to manage their conditions more effectively, giving people an opportunity to live longer, healthier lives. Whether through better screening, innovative therapies, or a more holistic approach to care, I am excited to be working towards ensuring the NHS on prevention and support.”
The NSAs will play a pivotal role in delivering Long Term Plan ambitions whilst providing clinical advice and leadership to drive service transformation for patients and ensuring the NHS is fit for the future.
