Getting ready to come in
You will know you are visiting hospital because we will send you a letter with details of your appointment – unless you have to go to A&E in an emergency.
Who does what?
When you arrive at the hospital you should make your way to the ward or department mentioned on your letter.
Getting ready to go home
When the doctor or nurses think you are well enough, you will be told that you can go home. This is known as being discharged.
Pre-Operative Assessment
If you are attending Leeds Children’s Hospital for planned surgery, you will be invited to a pre-operative assessment. This can be a face to face or a virtual appointment and will take place in the few weeks leading up to surgery.
The pre-operative assessment is an important stage where clinicians gather important, up to date health information about the child, plan any additional tests or specialist referrals that might be necessary. It’s also an opportunity for patients and parents/carers to ask questions about the admission and make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible on the day of surgery.
If you require any support to attend a pre-operative assessment such as a translation service, please contact the team using the contact information on your letter.
