Around 1 in 125 babies are born with CHD. As early as 50 years ago, most children born with poorly hearts sadly died before their first birthday. Thanks to advances in treatment, both locally and globally, there are now more adults than children living with CHD, and 90-95% of infants will survive to adulthood.
The specialist centre in the region is the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit (LCHU) which is supported by a network of 19 local hospitals, covering Yorkshire, The Humber, North East Lincolnshire and North Derbyshire.
Thanks to your donations, CHSF are able to provide life-saving medical equipment and staffing for this care network, and a suite of Leeds-based services including a holistic family support service, parent accommodation at the hospital and essential ward resources.
CHSF is driven and inspired by congenital heart disease patients in our region – past, present and future, and works to enable affected children, teens, adults and families to live their best possible lives.
