Peter is Professor of the School of Medicine at University of Leeds and Honorary Consultant in the Major Trauma Centre at the Leeds General Infirmary.
Our Major Trauma Centre is one of the largest in the country, caring for patients with complex trauma from across the region. Using his expertise, Peter set up the Day One charity at Leeds Teaching Hospitals in 2014, to provide additional support for patients.
Peter is also Editor in Chief of the Injury Journal and Chair of the Global Research Commission AO Foundation.
Peter has dedicated his career to research. He was the first UK orthopaedic surgeon to take a major interest in high-energy road traffic injuries, and led considerable research into damage control surgery and the body’s inflammatory response.
During his career, Peter has published 14 textbooks on Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, contributed to over 100 further publications, and over 600 peer review papers. He is also a renowned key note lecturer.
Peter received his MBE for services to Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery in the New Years Honours List 2024.
