The Trust’s plans are part of the national New Hospital Programme, a major Government initiative to invest in hospital infrastructure. Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust’s Hospitals of the Future Project is among the most advanced and ready-to-go schemes in the national programme.
- 2018: plans first unveiled
- 2019: Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust first confirmed as a priority hospital project
- 2020: Outline Planning Consent secured
- 2020: approval to the outcome of statutory consultation
- 2022: Cleared construction site at Leeds General Infirmary
- 2023: Secretary of State at the time, Steven Barclay MP, confirmed that the all cohort 3 schemes, of which Leeds Teaching Hospital Trusts is part of, would be fully-funded and could proceed
- 2024: July – new Government elected
- 2024: New Government announced review of national New Hospital Programme to put it on a more sustainable footing
The review of the national New Hospital Programme is underway and the Trust is currently awaiting the outcome of the review.
