Newly Registered Nurses
Leeds Children’s Hospital is committed to a 12 month preceptorship programme aligned with the Leeds Preceptorship Programme delivered within Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust.
The aims of the preceptorship programme are to:
- Support new staff to meet the requirements of their role, providing excellent care for children and young people.
- Provide dedicated time to reflect on practice and receive constructive feedback.
- Provide a positive and supportive learning environment that will facilitate the start of your career with us at Leeds Children’s Hospital.
- Support your wellbeing while adjusting to a new role.
The preceptorship year is the beginning of a structured career pathway that guides the early career of a newly registered nurse. This career pathway has been designed to provide solid foundations to support a lifelong career in children’s nursing.
Experienced Nurses
We value experience and welcome applications from all fields of nursing. We offer development opportunities to build on the existing experience and provide a structured programme of study, competencies and progression within the area chosen.
Undergraduate Nurses
Leeds Children’s Hospital is home to a wide range of clinical specialities, all keen to share their expertise with undergraduate nurses on their clinical placements.
Placements are overseen by our dedicated Practice Learning Facilitator who is on-hand to provide support and guidance to clinical staff, learners and their Higher Education Institutions.
Our staff are well quipped to carry out their roles as Practice Assessors and Practice Supervisors with the provision of bespoke training and annual updates. Through maintaining close links with partner universities, we ensure a seamless approach to the development of learners within the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) 2018 Standards for Student Supervision and Assessment.
In addition to in-placement learning opportunities, the Practice Learning Team within Leeds Teaching Hospitals Trust provides virtual learning forums on a weekly basis where learners from a multitude of professions come together to hear from a range of experts from all fields of healthcare.
The well-being of students on placement is our priority and we are proud to have a team of Professional Nurse Advocates (PNAs) dedicated to supporting learners. PNAs provide a restorative clinical supervision group session every month as well as 1:1 sessions on request.
We’re proud to have developed our placement circuit so that all Student Children’s Nurses within West Yorkshire have access to our placements. This includes: University of Leeds, University of Huddersfield, University of Bradford and The Open University.
We are also keen to support others who have an interest in experiencing our placements. If you are interested in applying for an elective placement, please complete the elective placement form.
