There are a number of viral infections that can cause a rise in the normal body temperature and resultant fever. Other symptoms may include aches, rashes and headaches. There are a number of viral agents that may cause viral fever; Adenovirus, Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) and Cytomegalovirus (CMV).

Multiplex PCR testing is carried out to detect viral targets. Full clinical details including travel history and any unusual exposure must be included to direct appropriate testing.
