The service supports the medical, physical, emotional and social needs of young cancer patients aged 13 to 24.
The team focuses on young people as individuals rather than defining them as cancer patients. They are young people first, who happen to have cancer.
The wards and outpatient areas have been developed by Leeds Teaching Hospitals and the enhancements have been supported by the Teenage Cancer Trust. The wards provide a ‘One Unit – Two Site’ model whereby the unit for younger patients (13 to 18 years) at Leeds Children’s Hospital is managed by Children’s Services and the unit at St James’s University Hospital (18 to 24 years) is managed by Adult Services.
